Daniel Sererols | Barcelona Mediator and Trainer in Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Management
As the 2025-2026 academic year comes to an end, I would like to share a few reflections on a year that has been particularly rewarding from a professional perspective.
My main activity continues to focus on conflict mediation in Barcelona. It is a profession that I am passionate about because it allows me to help individuals, families, companies, homeowners’ associations and organisations find dialogue-based solutions to situations that often seem difficult to address.
This year, however, I have also had the opportunity to devote a significant part of my time to another activity that I greatly value: teaching and professional training.
Sharing Experience at La Salle Gràcia
Throughout this academic year, I have taught in several Vocational Education and Training programmes at La Salle Gràcia.
I have had the opportunity to work with students from Business Administration and Finance, International Trade, Building Design and Construction Projects, and Sales and Marketing programmes, teaching subjects such as International Negotiation, Employability Pathways and Point-of-Sale Promotion.
I have always believed that technical knowledge is essential, but that interpersonal skills play an equally important role in any professional career.
Listening effectively, communicating clearly, negotiating, working as part of a team and managing disagreements are skills that accompany professionals throughout their working lives.
Many of the tools we use every day in mediation are equally valuable within companies, work teams and organisations of all kinds.
Bringing Real-Life Mediation to Future Professionals
This year I also had the honour of participating as a lecturer in the Conflict Resolution Postgraduate Programme organised by the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB).
The aim was to share with future mediators some of the situations that arise in real professional practice.
When studying mediation, people acquire knowledge, techniques and methodologies. However, there comes a moment when they must face their first real cases, and that is when questions emerge that cannot always be answered through theory alone.
How is trust built between the parties? How should a particularly emotional session be managed? What can be done when a negotiation seems blocked? How can neutrality be maintained in complex situations?
Being able to share real experiences and reflect together on these issues was a particularly rewarding experience.
Training Coordination in Mediation and ADR
This year I also had the opportunity to serve as Training Coordinator at Logos Media, an organisation specialising in the training of professionals in mediation, conciliation and other ADR methods (Alternative Dispute Resolution).
In this role, I participated in the coordination and development of training programmes aimed both at future mediators and at professionals wishing to expand their knowledge and skills in conflict resolution.
Training is an essential pillar for the future of mediation. For this reason, I find it especially rewarding to contribute to the preparation of new professionals and to the promotion of a culture based on dialogue, negotiation and the constructive management of conflicts.
The Importance of Prevention
Another particularly positive experience this year was delivering training for Fundesplai professionals on conflict prevention and management in youth environments.
The session focused on relationships between teenagers and educational teams, as well as on coexistence among young people themselves.
We often associate mediation with resolving conflicts once they already exist. However, a significant part of our work consists precisely in preventing them.
When people are equipped with communication, active listening and emotional management skills, many conflicts can be identified and redirected before they become more serious problems.
Sharing Experience with New Mediators
One of the greatest satisfactions of this academic year has been meeting people who are preparing to begin their professional careers in mediation.
I clearly remember my own professional beginnings and the doubts that arise whenever we take on new challenges.
For this reason, whenever I have the opportunity, I try to share experiences, lessons learned and reflections that may be useful to new professionals.
Mediation is a discipline that combines knowledge, technique and experience. Training is essential, but so are observing real cases, receiving professional guidance and maintaining a commitment to continuous learning.
If my experience can help other mediators take their first professional steps with greater confidence and security, it will be a pleasure to contribute.
Barcelona Mediator, Trainer and Solution Facilitator
After more than thirty-five years of professional experience in the business world and my current dedication to mediation, I am increasingly convinced that sharing knowledge and experience is one of the best ways to contribute to the growth of both individuals and organisations.
For this reason, I remain open to collaborating with schools, universities, professional associations, public administrations, companies and organisations wishing to organise training programmes, workshops, conferences or activities related to mediation, negotiation, communication, conflict prevention or ADR.
I am also available to new mediation professionals who wish to gain insight into the practical reality of the profession, share experiences or deepen their understanding of case management. Mediation is a discipline that is learned through study, but also through observation, practice and reflection alongside other professionals.
And, of course, I remain available to individuals, families, companies and organisations seeking the services of a mediator in Barcelona to address family, community, neighbourhood, business or organisational conflicts.
Ultimately, both mediation and teaching share the same purpose: helping people move forward.
