Memory ADR/MASC by Dialoga+: A Different Way to Learn and Practise Mediation
Those of us who work in mediation know that explaining certain concepts or encouraging people to participate actively in discussions about conflict is not always easy. And when we also work in education, we face similar challenges: we need resources that help people understand, remember and put into practice what they are learning.
That is why I found Memory ADR/MASC, a card game developed by Dialoga+, particularly interesting. Dialoga+ specialises in creating educational resources and practical tools for conflict management and resolution.
I have had the opportunity to explore the material myself, and I found it original, useful and, above all, very practical.
What is Memory ADR/MASC?
Memory ADR/MASC is a card game inspired by the traditional memory-matching game, adapted to the world of mediation, ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) and MASC (Medios Adecuados de Solución de Controversias, the appropriate dispute resolution mechanisms recognised within the Spanish legal system).
The game contains 68 cards forming 34 pairs. Each pair matches an image with a concept related to conflict management. The cards are organised into seven main categories, including dispute resolution methods, the values of mediation, conflict management styles and communication skills.
The game provides an opportunity to explore concepts such as negotiation, mediation, conciliation, confidentiality, impartiality, active listening, empathy and reframing.
Its main appeal lies in making learning and reflection more visual, interactive and engaging than an exclusively theoretical explanation.
A useful tool for mediators and educators
As a lawyer, conflict mediator in Barcelona and teacher, I find the possibility of using these cards in different settings particularly interesting.
In the classroom, for example, they can help introduce different dispute resolution methods, explain the differences between mediation and conciliation, or develop negotiation and communication skills.
In professional practice, they may also be useful as a complementary resource during introductory mediation sessions, training activities or certain mediation processes, provided their use is appropriate to the circumstances and accepted by the participants.
One of the applications I particularly like is using the cards to help distinguish between positions, interests and needs. This distinction is fundamental in mediation, yet it is not always easy to understand when we are personally involved in a conflict.
I also see considerable value in using the cards to explore active listening, empathy and different ways of responding to disagreements.
Of course, a game cannot replace the work of a qualified professional or the safeguards required in a mediation process. However, it can help us explain certain concepts more clearly, stimulate curiosity and encourage participation.
An initiative worth supporting
I believe that those of us working in mediation and conflict resolution should help raise awareness of initiatives that bring new resources and tools to our profession.
With Memory ADR/MASC, Dialoga+ has succeeded in turning concepts that can sometimes seem abstract into a visual, accessible resource with a wide range of potential applications.
Personally, I really like the idea and would recommend exploring it, whether you are a mediation or ADR professional, a teacher, a student or simply someone interested in conflict management.
I also believe it is important to support the entrepreneurial efforts of people who use their experience and creativity to develop resources that can benefit other professionals.
Memory ADR/MASC is available in Spanish and Catalan and can be purchased through Amazon.

For me, it is a good example of how a well-designed, game-based approach can become a valuable tool for education, communication and conflict management.
