Legal services, a key driver of Catalonia’s GDP growth
The latest advanced estimate from the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) confirms a significant figure: the Catalan economy grew by 2.8% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2025. Within this growth, legal services have emerged as one of the main drivers of economic activity.
Indeed, the services sector, which leads the growth with a 3.1% increase, has been primarily boosted by hospitality, food services, retail… and legal services. This is no minor detail: it highlights the essential role played by legal professionals, mediators, and conflict resolution experts in the region’s productive fabric.
Legal services do more than manage litigation or advise businesses and individuals. They also contribute trust, stability, and efficiency to the economy. In times of both growth and crisis, mechanisms such as mediation, conciliation, and ADR (appropriate dispute resolution methods) help reduce tensions and avoid unnecessary litigation. This, in turn, streamlines business activity, improves workplace climate, and fosters investment.
From the field of mediation, we welcome this implicit recognition. We will continue to advocate for a justice system that is more accessible, collaborative, and preventive, promoting dialogue and consensus as tools for economic progress as well.
