In Memory of Jean Schmitz: Mediation, Restorative Practices and a Legacy That Endures<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 9 July, a moving virtual tribute was held in memory of Jean Schmitz, who recently passed away, organised by his wife and those closest to him.<\/p>\n

Today, I would like to share and help disseminate the video of this tribute as a way of remembering someone whom I had the opportunity to know and from whom I also received training in the field of restorative practices.<\/p>\n

As a lawyer and mediator in Barcelona, my ongoing training in mediation, conflict management and restorative practices has allowed me to meet professionals who, from different perspectives, have contributed to enriching my way of understanding and addressing conflicts. Jean Schmitz was one of those people.<\/p>\n

I had the opportunity to participate in training courses delivered by him and to personally share some spaces related to restorative practices. His way of working offered an approach to conflict in which dialogue, listening and accountability play a fundamental role.<\/p>\n

The Importance of Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Restorative practices offer a different way of addressing conflicts and relationships between people. Beyond simply seeking an immediate solution to a problem, they make it possible to create spaces for dialogue, encourage listening and work towards repairing relationships when they have been affected.<\/p>\n

This perspective is closely related to mediation and restorative justice, fields that share the aim of offering people spaces for participation, dialogue and the search for solutions in situations of conflict.<\/p>\n

In my professional activity as a mediator in Barcelona, both in family and neighbourhood conflicts and in business and organisational disputes, I consider particularly valuable all those tools that help improve communication and enable people to address their differences in a constructive manner.<\/p>\n

The training and experiences shared with professionals such as Jean Schmitz are also part of this continuous learning process.<\/p>\n

A Tribute to Jean Schmitz and His Legacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The virtual tribute held on 9 July brought together his wife, family members, friends and people who shared different stages of Jean\u2019s life and career with him.<\/p>\n

It was an opportunity to share memories and testimonies, to gain a better understanding of his personal and professional qualities, and to remember the mark he left on those who had the opportunity to know him and work alongside him.<\/p>\n

For my part, I would like to help disseminate this tribute out of gratitude for the training I received, for the moments we shared and for his contribution to the dissemination and development of restorative practices.<\/p>\n
