Created to foster a culture of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, the CMC has become a key institution within the Catalan justice system.<\/p>\n<h3>What does it do?<\/h3>\n<p>The main functions of the CMC include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Promoting the use of mediation<\/strong> as an alternative to judicial proceedings<\/li>\n<li><strong>Managing the official registry<\/strong> of accredited mediators<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supporting training, outreach, and awareness<\/strong> actions on mediation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ensuring the quality<\/strong> and proper functioning of mediation services<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaborating with courts, professional associations and institutions<\/strong> to promote Appropriate Dispute Resolution Methods (ADRMs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How does it work?<\/h3>\n<p>The CMC acts as a technical and institutional reference for all stakeholders: professionals, courts, citizens, administration, and specialized organizations.<\/p>\n<p>It coordinates services such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Family Mediation Service<\/strong>, for separation, divorce, and intergenerational issues<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community and Neighbourhood Mediation Service<\/strong>, in partnership with local councils<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pilot programmes in criminal, school, administrative or healthcare mediation<\/strong>, among others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also validates training programs and accredits qualified mediators.<\/p>\n<h3>Who oversees it?<\/h3>\n<p>The CMC is part of the <strong>Department of Justice, Rights and Memory of the Government of Catalonia<\/strong>, and it is governed by <strong>Law 15\/2009 on mediation in private law matters<\/strong>, as well as other relevant regulations.<\/p>\n<h3>Where is it located?<\/h3>\n<p>The CMC headquarters is in <strong>Barcelona<\/strong>, at the Department of Justice building on <strong>Pau Claris Street, number 81<\/strong>. It also works with a network of mediation points throughout Catalonia.<\/p>\n<h3>A committed leadership<\/h3>\n<p>Until just a few days ago, the Centre was brilliantly led by <strong>Ms. Elisabeth Saltor i Padr\u00f3<\/strong>, a key figure in Catalan mediation.
