🌿 Jean Schmitz to deliver a Restorative Practices workshop in Barcelona

On 5 and 6 November 2025, Barcelona will host a must-attend event for professionals in mediation, education, and conflict management: the workshop “Restorative Practices: Learning by Doing Circles (Restorative Circles)”, led by Jean Schmitz, an international reference in the field.

The event is organized by the Col·legi Oficial de Doctors i Llicenciats en Filosofia i Lletres i en Ciències de Catalunya (CDL) and Logos Media, in collaboration with the Centre de Mediació of the Department of Justice.

Jean Schmitz, a Belgian based in South America since the 1980s, holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and in Restorative Practices from the International Institute of Restorative Practices (IIRP). With more than 20 years of experience working with adolescents and families at risk, he is a well-known promoter of juvenile restorative justice in Peru and of restorative practices worldwide.
In 2010, his work was recognized with the Veillard-Cybulski Award by the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates.


🎯 Workshop objectives

The purpose of the course is for participants to learn, through experiential and participatory practices, how to prepare and facilitate dialogue circles effectively, fostering coexistence, addressing conflicts, and preventing risky situations.

Key topics include:

  • Preparation and facilitation of different types of circles (sequential, non-sequential, and fishbowl technique).

  • Use of the talking piece and powerful, reflective questions.

  • Strategies to respond to unexpected situations.

  • Design of circles focused on preventing bullying and cyberbullying.

  • Responsible use of artificial intelligence to prepare dialogue circles.

🎓 Certification

The workshop consists of 8 hours of face-to-face training. It is currently under review for approval as continuing education by the Centre de Mediació of the Department of Justice.
